\nThe government, in January, increased benchmark central financial assistance for the residential sector under the\nrooftop solar program to give a push to the projects and cover the higher cost of solar panels.\n
\nSupport for up to 3 kW capacity was raised to Rs 18,000 per kW for general states, up 23.4%, from Rs 14,588 per kW earlier,\naccording to a notification from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.\n
\nThe Union Budget for 2023-24 had provided for an allocation of Rs 7,327 crore for the solar power sector including grid,\noffgrid, and PM-KUSUM projects. This was a 48 per cent increase over the previous Rs 4,979 crore provided in the revised\nestimates for the previous budget.\n
