A motorhome is a house bolted to a chassis, and damage rarely respects the line between the two. A curb strike bends an entry step and a stabilizer bracket. A rear cap hit pushes the ladder mount into the roof seam and starts a leak two feet inside. A sidewall scrape on a laminated wall can look like a scuff and read as delamination on a tap test eighteen inches past the mark. The first job on any coach is finding where the damage actually stops.

This shop takes drivable coaches up to forty five feet long and thirteen feet six inches tall through a drive-in bay, which is the practical reason a Diamond Bar owner ends up here rather than at a shop that works on cars. Thirty five thousand square feet buys a frame rack rated for a chassis that heavy, a booth long enough to shoot a full body without a break line down the side, and floor space to leave a coach open for the two weeks a substrate repair takes.

V-01.01 . WHAT ACTUALLY GETS DAMAGED

What actually gets damaged on a motorhome around here?

Four things, in order of how often they arrive: rooftop equipment sheared by a low garage header, rear caps and ladders hit at low speed in traffic, laminated sidewalls delaminating from a seam that has been open a season, and entry steps and skid plates ground off on a steep hillside driveway apron.

None of those four is a dramatic wreck. Three of them involve no other vehicle at all. What they share is that the visible mark understates the repair, because a coach body is a bonded sandwich rather than a stamped panel, and energy travels along the bond line instead of stopping where it landed.

The rooftop cases are the most expensive per inch. A sheared air conditioner shroud is a part. The header strike that sheared it also cracked the roof to cap seam, and that crack does not leak on the day it happens. It leaks on the third hot and cold cycle, into the front overhead, and the first symptom an owner reports is a soft spot in a cabinet six months later.

V-01.02 . HOW DO MY COACH'S

How do my coach's height, skin and paint change the repair?

Height, skin material and paint system decide whether a coach can be worked at all, how far the damage is allowed to travel before a panel is replaced instead of repaired, and how many adjacent panels have to be refinished so the repair does not show. They set the scope before anyone touches a tool.

This is the honest answer to why two coaches with the same size dent get two different repair orders. A gelcoat spider crack on a filon panel is a grinding and laminating job. The same crack on a full body paint coach with a graphics package is that job plus a multi panel blend, because the colour and the graphic both have to carry across the boundary.

The three variables that set the scope on a motorhome.

V-01.03 . WHY DOES A SMALL

Why does a small hit on a coach cost more than it looks like it should?

Because the coach has to come apart before the damaged area is reachable. Awning rails, running lights, compartment doors, trim and sometimes the awning itself sit over the repair. Removing and reinstalling that hardware is real labor, and it happens whether the damaged area is six inches or six feet.

On a car the panel unbolts. On a coach the sidewall is a structural laminate with everything bolted through it, so the teardown to reach a two foot repair can be a full day on its own. That fixed cost is why a minimum repair order exists and why a small job on a large body is never proportionally small.

The second driver is refinish area. A coach side is thirty to forty feet of continuous surface with no factory break line. There is nowhere natural to stop the clear, so the refinish runs to a hard edge, a graphic boundary or a corner radius, and that decision is made with a spray-out card before any material goes on the vehicle.

V-01.04 . HOW LONG IS MY

How long is my motorhome going to sit in your shop?

A bumper and cap repair with no structural involvement is a week to a week and a half. Sidewall delamination with substrate replacement runs two to three weeks. Full body paint on a forty five foot coach is longer than either, because film build and cure cannot be rushed without failing later.

Days in the shop are not days of labor. The gap between the two is carrier authorization, parts and cure time. A shop that quotes labor hours as calendar days is setting up a missed date, so the cycle band on this page is calendar days from drop off to delivery.

The one thing an owner controls is how fast authorization moves, and that is decided by how specific the first submission was. A scope written from a walk around gets questioned. A scope with tap test photographs, moisture readings and measurements attached gets approved.

V-01.05 . CAN YOU PAINT A

Can you paint a full body coach and actually have it match?

Yes, and the check is done outdoors rather than under shop light. A spray-out card is compared against the adjacent panel in daylight before any material goes on the coach, film build is measured at five points per panel, and the repair is judged at a shallow angle where a mismatch shows first.

Coach paint fades unevenly because the roof and the upper third of the sidewall take far more ultraviolet than the lower half. That means a factory colour code is a starting point and never an answer. The mix is adjusted to the panel as it exists today, on the coach in front of us, not to the code on the build sheet.

Graphics are the other half of the job. A full body graphic that crosses the repair has to be reproduced or replaced across the whole run, because a reprinted section will not weather the same as the twelve year old vinyl next to it. Where that applies, the scope says so before the work starts rather than after.

V-01.06 . WHAT HAPPENS TO THE

What happens to the inside when the outside gets hit?

More than owners expect. A sidewall impact loads the cabinetry bonded to it, a roof seam leak wets the overhead and the wall behind it, and a slide flange hit puts the slide room out of square. Interior work is scoped from what teardown finds, with moisture readings recorded before anything is closed.

The rule is that nothing gets closed up until the wood substrate reads under sixteen percent moisture content on a pin meter, on a grid rather than at one convenient spot. Closing a wet cavity is how a repaired coach comes back in eight months with a bigger problem and a harder claim.

Slide-outs get cycled three full times at delivery and measured at both top corners at full extension. A slide that seats on the third cycle but hesitates on the first is not finished, and that is the kind of thing that is easy to sign off on and expensive to discover in a campground.

What this looks like in Diamond Bar

A meaningful number of Diamond Bar homes were built in the nineteen seventies and eighties with seven and eight foot garage doors. A high roof Sprinter or a coach with a rooftop air conditioner does not clear that. The result is a sheared air conditioner shroud, a destroyed vent or antenna, a ladder bent into the rear cap, and a header strike that cracks the roof to cap seam and starts a leak that does not surface for six months. Diamond Bar municipal code requires a recreational vehicle on a residential lot to be stored out of public view, and many hillside homeowner associations prohibit visible storage outright on stricter terms. So most coaches here live somewhere else between trips: outdoors, uncovered, and unwalked. That is how a hairline seam becomes soft decking with nobody present to catch it. Those two facts arrive together on coaches. The header strike opens a seam nobody sees, the coach then goes back to an unattended storage yard for four months, and the crack that would have been an afternoon of sealant becomes soft decking and a wall panel. On a motorhome the cheapest week of the year is the one where somebody walks the roof before it gets parked.

Opens when the vehicle is on the floor, photographed from every affected angle, and the visible damage is written down with measurements rather than adjectives.
This is where a claim is either set up to succeed or set up to argue. A scope written from a walk around misses what teardown finds, every time.

Teardown to the actual damage boundary
Opens when trim, lights, seals and panels are off far enough that the edge of the damage is visible rather than inferred, and the boundary is photographed.
On a large body the damage almost always runs past what the outside shows. Finding that edge is the whole reason a supplement exists.

Scope and carrier authorization
Opens when the written scope, with photographs and measurements, has been submitted and the carrier has authorized the line items in it.
Days spent here are days nobody is working on the vehicle. Being specific in G-01 and G-02 is what shortens this gate.

Structure before surface
Opens when any frame, chassis or substrate work measures inside tolerance against the opposite side or the published datum, with a printed measurement record.
Paint over unresolved structure is the most expensive mistake available in this trade, because it has to come back off.

Refinish and cure
Opens when film build measures inside specification across the repaired panels and the colour is indistinguishable from the adjacent panel outdoors in daylight.
Judged outside, never under shop light, and never at a right angle to the panel.

Reassembly, water test and scan
Opens when every seal that was broken has passed a directed water test, and any vehicle with driver assistance sensors has a post repair scan on file.
A roof or window repair that was not water tested is a future claim with a delay built into it.

Days in the shop, not days of labor. The gap between the two is carrier approval, parts and cure time, and pretending otherwise is how shops end up explaining a missed date.

How the number is actually built

Labor is billed at the posted rate for the discipline the work falls under. Body and paint is $210 per hour, mechanical and electrical is $260 per hour, diagnostics is $285 per hour, and detail is $95 per hour.
Materials are calculated on every repair order. Paint supplies are $55 per paint hour and body supplies are $5 per body hour. A $45 hazmat and disposal charge applies when chemicals, refrigerant or LP is involved.
Parts carry a 100 percent markup at or under $100 and 35 percent above it.
Sales tax of 7.75 percent applies to parts and materials. Labor is not taxed.
A 50 percent deposit is due at authorization on any job over $2,000.
An additional 25 percent is due when parts arrive on any job over $10,000.
The final balance is due at pickup. No vehicle leaves the property until it is paid in full.
A 3.5 percent surcharge applies to credit card payments over $1,000. That is a pass through of merchant fees on high ticket work.
$500 Minimum repair order. Below that figure the setup, teardown and documentation cost more than the repair.

Collision damage is assessed in the shop. A written repair plan is $150, applied as a credit against authorized repair. In depth diagnostic time is one hour at $285 per hour, also applied as a credit.

How this repair is judged finished

A repair is not finished because someone says so. It is finished when it measures inside a stated tolerance. These are the numbers this work is held to, the method used to measure each one, and what you can check yourself at delivery.

Q01Do you come out to my vehicle in Diamond Bar?

No. All work is performed in the shop at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, because the frame rack, the paint booth, the lift capacity and the measuring equipment are here and cannot be carried. If the vehicle is not drivable, we can talk through transport options when you call.

Q02How long will my vehicle be in the shop?

Minor collision work is 4 to 10 days, moderate is 10 to 21 days, and major structural work runs 21 to 90 days. Those are days in the shop, not days of labor. The difference is carrier approval, parts and cure time, and a shop that quotes labor days as calendar days is setting up a missed date.

Q03Why did the estimate go up after teardown?

Because the first estimate was written from the outside and teardown found the actual damage boundary. On a large body that is the normal case rather than the exception. A supplement documents the additional damage and goes to the carrier for approval. It raises what the carrier pays, not what you pay, because a deductible applies once per claim.

Q04My coach is forty three feet long. Will it even fit?

Yes. The drive-in bay takes up to forty five feet of length and thirteen feet six inches of height, and the paint booth is long enough to shoot a side in one pass. Length is only a problem if the coach is not drivable, in which case we talk through transport when you call.

Q05The dent is small but you want to replace the whole sidewall panel. Why?

Because tap testing found the bond had let go well outside the dent. A fiberglass or composite panel is repairable until the damaged area passes roughly a third of the panel, or until delamination is found past the visible impact zone. Past either line a repair telegraphs, holds moisture, or fails at the bond.

Q06Can you replace an RV windshield on a Class A?

Yes. It is set in urethane rather than a rubber gasket on most Class A coaches, which means the opening has to be measured and, if the chassis took an impact, corrected before the glass goes in. Setting new glass into a distorted opening is how a windshield cracks again within a month.

Q07Do you work on the engine or the transmission while it is here?

No. This shop does not do engine or transmission rebuilds, and it does not do emission testing. The work here is body, paint, fiberglass, frame and chassis geometry, roof, slide-out, awning, electrical, generator, plumbing, appliance, interior and fabrication. Drivetrain overhaul work goes to a chassis specialist.

Q08My coach has been in outdoor storage between trips. What should I have looked at?

Every roof penetration, the roof to cap seams front and rear, the awning rail bed, and the window frames on the side that faces the sun. Those are the seams that open first on a coach that sits uncovered. Catching an open seam costs a fraction of catching soft decking.
