What kind of RV repair do you actually need?

Nearly every RV repair falls into one of five buckets, and each bucket belongs to a different technician using different equipment. Sorting yours before you call saves about a week of back and forth.

What does RV repair cost when the shop publishes its rates?

It costs whatever the labor hours multiply out to, which is why the rate matters more than any total quoted over the phone. OCRV Center posts four rates: $210 per hour for body and paint, $260 per hour for mechanical and electrical, $285 per hour for diagnostics and programming, and $95 per hour for detail. Most shops in this trade will not say those numbers out loud until the vehicle is already apart.

Two figures anchor the rest. An annual maintenance service runs $400 to $2,500 depending on how many systems are on the list. Water damage restoration with subfloor replacement runs $750 to $15,000, and the spread is real: a rotted corner under one wet window is a different job from a coach that has been leaking at the front cap for six seasons.

Why does the same repair cost more on a Class A than a Class C?

Because they are built differently, not because one is worth more. A Class C is built on a cutaway van chassis with a factory cab, so the front clip, the doors, the windshield and most of the wiring forward of the B pillar are automotive parts with automotive availability. Damage to a Class C nose is often a cab repair plus a fiberglass overcab bunk repair, and the cab half moves quickly.

A Class A has no donor cab. The front cap is a single molded fiberglass shell, frequently the largest part on the vehicle, and behind it sit the dash structure, the windshield frame, HVAC ducting and a wiring harness that was assembled before the cap went on. Replacing a Class A front cap runs $4,500 to $25,000 and 30 to 120 labor hours, and a fair share of those hours is disassembly that has nothing to do with the damaged panel itself.

Diesel pushers add another layer. The radiator, the charge air cooler and the generator all live in the rear, so a rear impact that looks cosmetic can involve cooling stack removal before anyone touches body filler.

What should you have ready before you call?

Six things, and having them turns a vague phone call into a real scope conversation.

Year, make, model and length, plus whether it is Class A, B or C, a fifth wheel or a travel trailer.
Photographs. A wide shot showing the whole side, then close on the damage, then one from underneath if anything is bent.
Whether it is drivable, and whether the slides and entry door still operate.
Claim number and carrier, if this is an insurance job.
Any repair the vehicle has already had in that area, including a prior owner's fiberglass patch.
Whether you need it back by a specific date, and why.

That last one matters more than people expect. A shop that knows you have a reservation in nine weeks sequences the parts order differently from one that does not.

Where does the work happen and how do you get there from Tustin?

Do you work on RVs that are not from a dealer network?

Yes. All years, all makes, all classes, including units whose manufacturer no longer exists and units a dealer has declined. The shop is independent, so no brand list gates what comes through the gate. Vintage aluminum sided coaches and current diesel pushers are regularly in adjacent bays.

How long will my RV sit at the shop?

Labor hours are predictable, calendar time is not. A slide seal replacement is 2 to 14 labor hours and usually leaves inside a week. A structural collision repair on a Class A can run 5 to 800 labor hours across several months, and most of that calendar time is carrier approval and parts transit, not technicians standing at the vehicle.

Can you tell me what is wrong over the phone?

Sometimes, for mechanisms and cosmetic damage where a photograph is conclusive. For anything electrical, intermittent or water related, no. Those need an in shop diagnostic at one hour at $285, applied as a credit against an authorized repair, because guessing at a leak path from a description wastes your money and ours.

Do you take RVs that other shops have already worked on?

Frequently. Bring whatever paperwork you have from the prior repair. Previous fiberglass patches, non structural adhesive used on a structural joint and roof sealant applied over a failing seam all change the scope, and finding them during teardown rather than at estimate time is what causes supplements.
